A BIRTHDAY PARTY.Thursday 4 August was the birthday party if one of our ladies and we never need much as an excuse to have a party, we decided we must celebrate. The only problem was, where should we go. Frankie & Bennys seemed like a good choice, and it was. We had a really nice meal, good company and lots of laughter, what more do you need for an enjoyable evening. All finished off with the lights dimming, “Congratulations” followed by “Happy Birthday” played over the sound system and a birthday cake complete with candles! Another successful party and another venue that we would like to visit again. Croquet Afternoon 22 June 2011Yes, it was that time of year again when the Ladybirds invade Joyce's croquet lawn. We had another very enjoyable afternoon, the weather was kind to us once more and we were able to enjoy our lunch in the garden before the games commenced. This year everyone contributed by bringing a wonderful selection of food and drink, as always there was far too much, but no-one was complaining. There was the usual mayhem when we played croquet, the rules are not just bent but twisted completely! Sally & Beryl tried to keep score and some sort of order, not entirely successfully. I think Pat and Jean were the eventual winners, so congratulations to them. Hopefully we will do it all again next year! BARBECUE & WALK Wednesday 18 July 2010Joyce has had a busy time recently, first hosting the croquet afternoon then organising a barbecue lunch at The Three Horseshoes in Scotton, followed by a walk. Eleven of us met at 12.30pm for lunch, the weather was unsettled and some of us had travelled through heavy rain on the way to Scotton, so we were seated in the conservatory and lunch was served to us there, a good assortment of barbecued meats with a lovely selection of salads. Only 3 of us were energetic enough to go for a walk after lunch so we left the others to enjoy dessert, tea and coffee, whiles we set of feeling virtuous! The walk took us through the village then out across the fields. One shower made us take cover under the trees but that only lasted a few minutes, then we were off again. A highlight of the walk was watching deer running across the field just ahead of us. Thank you Joyce for yet another lovely afternoon. CROQUET, 23 JUNE 2010Once again Joyce hosted an afternoon of coquet on the lawn. This was the third year we had played the game and some members still have trouble following the rules of the game. The weather was kind to us, it was a glorious hot sunny afternoon. Joyce provided a delicious lunch after which the game started. I'm sure we would not be welcome on some croquet lawns but we all had a fun afternoon. I don't think any of will be representing out country at the same any time soon! Thank you Joyce for your wonderful hospitality. SALLY'S INAUGARTIONWednesday 26 May 2010 should have been a normal monthly meeting but one of our younger members was about to celebrate her 50th birthday, that's the time to change from pink hat with lilac to red hat and purple. As she is the first “ladybird” to reach maturity we thought we should make it a special evening. The owners of the Take a Gander kindly allowed us to decorate the room and bring our own buffet. The members provided a delicious supper which was enjoyed by all. Then the Queen Mum presented Sally with her first official Red Hat. We all enjoyed a good party atmosphere, everyone had taken photograph of themselves as a child and it was really funny trying to guess who was who. Lots of fun and laughter and Sally is now officially a “Red Hatter”. Anniversary Dinner – Wednesday 14 April 2010We celebrated our 4th Anniversary at The Rectory in Wroot. We sat down to a delicious meal cooked by Trish, who used to be a Red Hatter until other commitments meant she had to leave us. So it seemed fitting that she was able to join in our celebrations even though it meant that she did all the work! We enjoyed an excellent 3 course dinner followed by coffee and chocolates, all accompanied by our usual fun and laughter. Thank you Pat for your organisation and Trish for hosting us all. Epworth Old Rectory – Friday 5 March 2010Some of us stepped 300 years back in time when we visited Epworth Old Rectory for a candlelit tour. Our guide was dressed in period costume and lead us around with just one candle, taking us from room to room in semi-darkness, giving us a taste of what life must have been like when the Wesley family lived there. The rooms looked completely different when the electric lights were switched on again. We then had the opportunity to go up the narrow stairs to the 'haunted' attic but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we didn't see any any spirits that night!
